Lady Captain's Blog - Issue 7 / April 2014

It's been a busy few weeks within the Ladies' section, both golfing and socially.

Congratulations to Terry Hutchings and Hema Dabasia who are through to the next round of the Daily Mail Foursomes. They'll be playing their next match at home on Monday 14 April. The Mail on Sunday (singles) team won an away match against Gerrards Cross on Saturday 5 April despite Jessie's opponent getting a hole in one and Liz's sinking a long putt for eagle. Well done to Jessie, Jill, Hema, Liz and Anna. The Pearson's Team won their home match against Bush Hill Park 5/2, and then lost their away match at Bush Hill Park last week 5/2. Win some, lose some. The Scratch Team unfortunately lost 4/1 at Pinner Hill on Saturday 29 March. Pinner brought out their big guns, playing three of their juniors who are in the England under 16 squad.

Good luck to Jessie, Hema, Anna, Maritza, Mary Remedious, Elizabeth Bowen and Daniella who are playing their division's Middlesex Spring Meetings soon. The Laidlay Shield is played for at the Middlesex Spring Meetings by club teams of not more than seven and not less than five players. The four best nett differential scores of each team count towards winning the shield.
The committee has decided to extend the deadline for entries into the Balland's Trophy until Tuesday 15 April. We are noticeably down on entries this year, probably due to the poor weather conditions we have had over the winter. If you haven't already entered, now's your chance.

The March Mixed Bridge Day was well attended with 60 players taking part. Everyone enjoyed themselves and, as usual, the caterers did us proud by serving up a delicious lunch of soup and sandwiches. Thanks to everyone who helped on the day.
We had an amazing gathering of almost 140 people at the Fashion Show last Tuesday and the feedback has been extremely positive. There is a now a news item on the home page of the club's website with a link to a document showing photos of each model, the details and prices for each of the outfits so tell your friends that came along to take a look. If you click here it will take you straight there. I must thank Ann Keegan for suggesting the idea and organising it with John Lewis. Ann has shown tremendous support for the ladies' locker room project and has also made a personal donation of £120 towards the fund. We haven't quite finalised the amount we made on the night but it's around £1k which makes us almost half-way to reaching our goal. Thanks again to everybody for supporting the event and especially Janet Hildreth for organising our end of the show. I mustn't forget our waiters Paul and Richard who are now available for weddings, bar mitzvahs and christenings at a small charge of course, all proceeds towards the locker room fund.

Lady Captain's Away Day - Monday 14th July.
Please note that the date for my away day has been entered wrong in the new diary, it should read Monday 14 July and not Friday 4 July.

Anna Hannigan is organising a Texas Scramble to be played on Bank Holiday Monday 5 May, details to follow...
