The Greenkeepers

Our Greens Team headed by Barry Neville who’s team maintain a tremendous course the whole year, which we hope to improve further still year after year. Our policy as a Club is to train our staff so they become competent in the work they do, and to this end all our staff have various different qualifications.

Barry Neville
Course Manager

Barry joined the Stanmore Greenkeeping team in 1994, and became Head Greenkeeper in 1996. Barry holds the equivalent to a NVQ level 4 in Greenkeeping and Sports Turf Management, as well as spraying and First Aid qualifications. In 1992 Barry won the Student Greenkeeper of the year award through BIGGA, and his prize was an all expenses paid, 2 month course at the University of Massachusetts in America.

Ian Creswick
Deputy Course Manager

Ian first worked at Stanmore back in 1990, through to 2002, but after a short break re-joined as Deputy Head Greenkeeper in 2006. Ian is qualified up to NVQ Level 3 in greenkeeping, and holds First Aid, spraying and chainsaw qualifications. Ian is a keen golfer playing off a handicap of 9, and had represented the Club playing for both the Foxes and the Tigers B teams.

Martin Coombs
First Assistant Greenkeeper

Martin is the longest serving of our greenkeepers having worked here for over 20 years starting back in 1993. Martin is qualified to NVQ level 2, and has done several chainsaw courses. As well as his work around the golf course, Martin undertakes a lot of our machinery maintenance and repair work.
