A friend and I played here on on friday morning
as it was a visitors day and we both found it to be a really lovely, very well maintained course. The ground staff seem to
take pride in their work that you don't find at a lot of other private courses. Together with that, the great views &
the attention to detail makes it feel like your having a real treat. The course not being that long was quite fast to
get round on friday morning although the hills made it as hard on the feet as a much longer course would. I would imagine
that weekends would be fairly slow due the 5 par 3's and shorter 4s. A couple of the holes look a bit tight from
the tee but there is plenty of room out there and you shouldn't get worried by some of the other reports you may have
seen. The greens on the other hand we found to be really quick and tricky and i wasn't giving anything less than 18 inches
after the first hole :-) On more than one occasion the ball seemed to have been played with the perfect weight only to speed
up at the hole and leave us with another 3ft. To sum up .. at the end of the round we both enquired about membership
!
played as a visitor on a friday morning, was
quite impressed. very quiet, & quick to get round. as a relative beginner, it was challenging with quite a few daunting
tee shots and uphill 2nds to par 4's, but not enough to put me off. the relatively easy 18th ensured that i came off the
course feeling good about myself & in a positive mood. i only live 2mins away & am considering membership.
We played on one of the hottest days of the year
and still found the course well presented, particularly the greens. The course is generous to those of us who
are early in out golfing career and yet still challenging to the more accomplished player. Be warned that playing on
such a hot day was made testing due to some definite ups and down in the first nine, but it made the 19th hole all the more
enjoyable! The pro and the facilities deserve an honourable mention as well. I will definitely play there again.
Recently played Stanmore and echo previous comments
about it being a testing and interesting course. Despite being in late December the course was in a excellent condition with
only one temporary tee.
As a member of Stanmore Golf Club for 12 years
I have considerable knowledge and experience of the course. It is not long (par 68 although planning to extend to 69
shortly) but it's far from easy, with a number of lengthy and testing par 4s. The course is centred upon a hill (the
highest point in Middlesex) so there are plenty of uphill and downhill lies. However, the real challenge is the profusion
of woodland which means that many of the holes are tight, with some testing drives that must be straight or you will severely
damage your card. The signature hole, the par 4 7th, requires a tee shot over trees and extensive rough to a fairway
far below. One of the pleasures of playing Stanmore is that, despite the fact that it is in suburban London, it is well
away from main roads so is as quiet as a course set in the countryside, with some terrific views. If you hit the ball
straight you'll enjoy the course immensely. If you don't, you'll need to capitalise on the 5 par 3s.
Not a long course, although 3 or 4 uphill par
4's to stretch for. Nevertheless, some very interesting holes requiring a bit of course management to avoid running up
the numbers. Not easy to score well on, on your first visit. Greens generally in good condition and pretty true. Rough not
too punishing, but stray beyond that and forget it... Good for thinking golfers.
